In the fierce SEO race, speed is the deciding factor. Whoever is faster has the advantage. Getting a new article, an updated product page, or important information 'seen' and indexed quickly by Google can make a huge difference in rankings and traffic. This is where the Google Indexing API tool shines, and Solann is here to help you harness its full power.

Let's dive deeper into this tool, its detailed setup, and why Solann's platform is the optimal solution for you.

What is the Google Indexing API tool?

The Google Indexing API is a powerful Application Programming Interface (API) provided by Google itself, allowing website owners to send direct notifications to Google as soon as new content is published or old content is updated.

Imagine, instead of passively waiting for Googlebot to visit your website on an unknown schedule, you can proactively 'call' Google directly and say, 'Hey Google, I have a new URL, come crawl it now!'. This mechanism helps Google schedule crawls more efficiently, similar to how Google News indexes hot news stories in just a few minutes.

Basic features of the Google Indexing API:

  • Update URL: Notify Google of a new URL or updated content at an old URL.
  • Delete URL: Request Google to remove a deleted page from the search index.
  • Check request status: Check if Google has received your notification for a specific URL.
  • Batch submission: Send requests for up to 100 URLs in a single API call, saving resources.

Compared to the traditional method of waiting for Google to crawl a sitemap, using this API ensures that Googlebot receives the information much earlier. Understanding what indexing is and leveraging an effective indexing tool like the Google Indexing API will help your website grow significantly.

The 'Key' Reasons You Should Implement the Google Indexing API Now!

Integrating this tool is not just a technical improvement, but also a smart SEO strategy that brings many practical benefits.

Rank for keywords faster

When your content is indexed almost instantly, it starts competing for rankings sooner. For timely or highly competitive topics, appearing a few hours earlier can be enough to secure a top position.

Increase the chance of outranking competitors

While your competitors are still waiting for Googlebot, you have proactively sent your latest content to Google. This gives you an 'edge' and a better chance to rank higher for your target keywords.

Always have fresh search results

Users always crave new information. When your page is indexed quickly, you will capture traffic from people searching for newly launched topics, events, or products.

Optimize Crawl Budget

By telling Google exactly which URLs to pay attention to, you help Googlebot avoid wasting resources on re-crawling unchanged pages, thereby focusing on your most important content.

After submitting, you can use Google index checker tools to confirm the effectiveness, or indexability assessment tools to check the overall health of your website.

The Most Effective Use Cases for the Google Indexing API

Although useful for many types of websites, the Google Indexing API is particularly powerful for sites with frequently changing or time-sensitive content. Here are some optimal use cases:

News websites, blogs

Ensure that breaking news and articles are indexed immediately to reach readers as early as possible, competing on Google News and Top Stories.

E-commerce sites

Quickly update product status (in stock/out of stock), new prices, and flash promotions, ensuring that information in search results is always accurate.

Job recruitment websites

Job postings often have a short lifespan. Fast indexing helps job ads reach potential candidates as soon as they are posted.

Event and livestream pages

Notify Google about upcoming events or live broadcasts to attract participants in a timely manner.

Guide to Installing and Configuring the Google Indexing API for Your Website

The installation process can be a bit complicated for beginners, but don't worry. Solann will guide you through each step in detail.

1

Step 1: Create a free Google Cloud account

First, you need a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) account.

  1. Go to the Google Cloud homepage at: https://cloud.google.com/.
  2. Click the 'Get started for free' button.
  3. Log in with your Google account and follow the instructions, including providing payment information (Visa/Mastercard) for verification. Google will not charge you unless you actively upgrade your account.
2

Step 2: Create a project and a Service Account

Next, you will create a new project and a service account to communicate with the API.

  1. In the Google Cloud console, find and select IAM & Admin > Service Accounts.
  2. Click + CREATE SERVICE ACCOUNT.
  3. Service account name: Choose an easy-to-remember name, for example: 'indexing-api-solann'.
  4. Service account ID: It will be generated automatically. Copy this email address; it looks like account-name@project-name.iam.gserviceaccount.com. You will need it in Step 4.
  5. Click CREATE AND CONTINUE.
  6. In the Grant this service account access to project section, select the Role as Owner to grant the highest level of permissions.
  7. Click DONE to finish.
3

Step 3: Create and download the JSON file containing the API Key

This is the 'key' to authenticate your requests.

  1. In the list of Service Accounts, find the account you just created.
  2. Click the three-dot icon (Actions) at the end of the row and select Manage keys.
  3. Select ADD KEY > Create new key.
  4. Choose the format as JSON and click CREATE.
  5. A file with a .json extension will be automatically downloaded to your computer. Keep this file safe.
4

Step 4: Grant 'Owner' permission in Google Search Console

To allow the API to send requests for your website, you need to grant permission to the service account in Google Search Console.

  1. Go to your website's Google Search Console.
  2. Go to Settings > Users and permissions.
  3. Click the ADD USER button.
  4. In the Email address field, paste the Service Account email address you copied in Step 2.
  5. In the Permission section, select Owner.
  6. Click ADD.

Security Note

This is completely safe. This service account can only interact via the API, and no one can use it to log into your Search Console.

5

Step 5: Enable the Web Search Indexing API library

You need to 'turn on' this API in your Google Cloud project.

  1. Return to the Google Cloud console.
  2. Navigate to the APIs & Services > Library menu.
  3. In the search box, type 'Web Search Indexing API' (or Indexing API).
  4. Select the corresponding result and click ENABLE.
6

Step 6: Configure the API Key on Solann SEO Software (or a plugin)

This is the final step to get the API up and running.

The Easiest Way (Recommended): Use the Solann platform

  1. Log in to your account at https://seo.solannsoftware.com/.
  2. Go to the Configure Google Indexing API section > Add New Domain.
  3. Open the .json file you downloaded in Step 3 with a text editor (like Notepad).
  4. Copy the entire content of the file and paste it into the GoogleJsonKey field.
  5. Fill in the remaining information and click Submit. That's it!

Manual Method: Use the Instant Indexing Plugin (for WordPress)

  1. Install and activate the Instant Indexing for Google plugin by Rank Math.
  2. In the WordPress admin dashboard, navigate to Rank Math > Instant Indexing.
  3. Paste the entire content of the .json file into the Google API Key field.
  4. Select the post types (Posts, Pages, Products...) you want to submit.
  5. Click Save Changes.
7

Step 7: Common Issues and Troubleshooting

You may encounter some errors during the installation process. Here are common problems and how to solve them to make you more confident when deploying:

This error usually occurs for one of two reasons: (1) You haven't enabled the Indexing API in the Google Cloud Console (go back to Step 5 to check) or (2) the Service Account has not been granted 'Owner' permission in Google Search Console (re-check Step 4). Make sure the Service Account's email is added correctly and has Owner permission.

This is often related to your JSON Key file. Make sure you have copied the entire content of the JSON file and pasted it correctly into the Solann platform or plugin, without any extra or missing characters, including the curly braces {}.

Be patient. Although the API speeds things up, it doesn't mean instant indexing in 1 second. Also, double-check if your website is blocking Googlebot with a robots.txt file or a noindex meta tag on that page.

Google has a daily request limit. If you encounter this error, you have submitted too many URLs. Wait until the next day or contact Solann to inquire about higher-tier service packages if your needs are large.

Guide to Using the Google Indexing API to Submit URLs

After successful configuration, submitting URLs becomes extremely simple.

Submit URLs via the Solann Digital interface

This is the most centralized and efficient way to manage it. You just need to access the Solann platform, go to the index management section, and paste the list of URLs to be processed. The intuitive and easy-to-use interface will help you get the job done in just a few clicks.

Submit URLs using Rank Math's Instant Indexing Plugin
